Manufacturing Precision Military and Defense Components for Land, Sea, and Air

Manufacturing parts for the U.S. military requires a commitment to consistent precision and quality. Not only is this essential to meet stringent government requirements, but many parts serve critical functions and are used in sensitive applications. As such, manufacturing parts and components for military applications requires a broad range of capabilities and the skills of an experienced manufacturing partner that thoroughly understands the military’s specific needs.

At Leech Industries, we have decades of experience manufacturing high-quality, durable, and advanced components for all branches of the U.S. military. As a veteran-owned AS9100, ITAR-registered and CMMC Level 1 machine shop, we take pride in providing contract manufacturing services for the Department of Defense, military contractors, and defense industry OEMs. With our team of engineers and experienced production staff, we’re able to overcome the toughest engineering challenges and manufacture precision parts for reliable in-the-field use, even for the most critical military and defense applications.

Research and Development Partners for Advanced Military Applications

Staying ahead of adversaries' defense technologies is one of the military's main objectives. Not only does this take extensive research and innovation, but it also requires advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

While many companies manufacture precision military and defense components, Leech Industries is part of a select group of manufacturers that work alongside research and development laboratories and OEM’s technology development teams, helping to create the next generation of military technologies.

Engineering Enhancements for the Mark 48 Torpedo

With decades of experience working with the military, we’ve helped make enhancements to mainstay combat technologies like the Mark 48 torpedo. Though the Mark 48 has been in production since the early 1970s, keeping it updated with modern capabilities requires continuous engineering and development.

Working closely with a R&D lab, we leveraged our engineering knowledge and a broad mix of manufacturing capabilities, including CNC turning and 5-axis machining, to produce parts with complex geometries for use in testing concepts to further enhance the performance of the Mk 48 torpedo.

Aerospace Precision Machining for U.S. Air Force Fighter Jets

As an AS9100 machine shop, we manufacture many parts and components for companies in the aerospace industry. However, military aircraft are very different than their commercial counterparts, with more advanced technologies and high-performance capabilities. This also means that they have significantly more complex parts.

Precision Machining Parts for F-16 Fighting Falcon Generators

As a respected military and defense contract manufacturer, Leech Industries manufactures various components for the F-16 Fighting Falcon’s engine mounted electrical generator. These include the housings, end bells, starter rings, and other components, which together have over 700 dimensions.

With so many complex geometries across components, manufacturing these parts required substantial engineering and manufacturing process work to ensure they were produced to the tolerances, quality, and cost required.

Leech Industries’ experience in aerospace precision machining and advanced CNC programming knowledge, allowed us to move these parts from concept into production.  Even more importantly, Leech Industries has provided value to the OEM and the US military by continuously improving the production processes to drive cost and lead time improvements. In today’s economic environment, offsetting the impacts of inflation and other cost drivers is as important as ever in the military/industrial supply chain.

Manufacturing Durable, Weather-Resistant Parts for Ground-Force Operations

While many of the precision military and defense components that Leech Industries manufactures are for complex and sensitive applications, others are less complex but require durability to withstand harsh environments and extreme use. This is often the case with military equipment that ground forces rely on for training and on the battlefield.

Injection Molding Replacement Machine Gun Parts

The .50 caliber machine gun is a key piece of equipment for our military ground forces, but like most equipment, it requires proper maintenance. The handles of these firearms are regularly exposed to the elements and skin oils, and over time, they degrade and require replacement.

While getting replacement parts for civilian firearms is fairly simple, many aftermarket components fail to meet government specifications and requirements. However, as a supplier to the Department of Defense and military contractors, at Leech Industries, we know how to meet these requirements — and always aim to exceed them.

To produce the .50 caliber machine gun handles, we relied on our expertise in plastic molding and mold design. We designed these molds specifically for thermoset molding, as thermoset resins have a high strength-to-weight ratio and are corrosion- and water-resistant — ideal properties for this application.

By molding these handles, volume production was efficient, cost-effective, and easily repeatable for future needs. And with the new, upgraded thermoset resin handles, the military’s .50 caliber machine guns will better withstand demanding and unpredictable battlefield environments.
